Examination tables and operators needed in a veterinary clinic

22 Jun 2023

Anyone who has a pet knows how important and, at times, challenging it is to care for them. Whether it is for diagnostic or preventive purposes, making regular visits is essential to keep our four-legged friends healthy. That’s why, if you have one in your home, you’ve probably been to the vet at least once.

Just like humans, dogs, cats and rabbits may also experience fear during the performance of medical procedures. To prevent any attempts to wriggle out from resulting in unpleasant complications, therefore, it is essential that the practice has the proper equipment. We at Lory Veterinary Projects are in the business of providing the best clinics with complete instrumentation for the absolute well-being of patients.

In this article, we will specifically discuss the requirements to consider when choosing examination tables and operators for a veterinary practice.

Surfaces: what are the most suitable materials?

A good product must, first and foremost, be easy to disinfect. Otherwise, in fact, the animals would be at risk of contracting diseases, viruses, or infections every time they do a checkup.

One of the most widely used materials for the surfaces of examination and operating tables isAISI 304 stainless steel. Among its main characteristics, we findstainlessness and high resistance to aggressive chemicals, which allows good preservation of the table top. Yes also to antibacterial krion sheets, which with their zero porosity prevent active microorganisms from accumulating and proliferating. In addition, they are welded through smooth, jointless joins, inhibiting the formation of dirt and facilitating cleaning.

The radiolucent material, on the other hand, is ideal for radiological examinations, as it is passed through by radiation without generating interference. Our catalog contains various items made from this particular laminate, such as the Luminux model examination table, the Oxalis model electric table, and many others.

Alternatively, you can opt for rubber covers. Of that type, it is advisable to prefer an anti-slip version that promotes patient stability on the couch.

Models of examination tables for veterinary clinic

Table tops intended for medical checkups of four-legged friends can be fixed or electric. In contrast to the former, the latter allow tilting of the working surface. Thus, they allow the doctor to take advantage of some easy actions, such as: vertical movement to change the height of the table, trendelenburg movement and/or the combination of both, as in the case of our Gardavet.

In contrast, fixed shelves have the advantage of resting on furniture with doors and drawers. This provides instant access to instruments during procedures. There are also models that fold back on themselves, called flip-flats, which are ideal if available space is particularly tight, as they make it easier to quickly clear the veterinary clinic.

It is also important that examination tables be equipped with systems for draining and collecting liquids, such as basins, perimeter drip trays, and flares. Thus, the environment will be kept clean and hygienic for the benefit of patients.

Electric and hydraulic operating tables

Especially in the case of surgical operations, it is good to prepare appropriately with suitable materials. Before purchasing specific items, however, several factors should be considered. Let’s look at them together.

First, the type of power supply for the product should be checked. Electric operating tables use motors that provide them with the power necessary for proper operation. Therefore, they require the presence of an electrical outlet nearby. Hydraulic ones, on the other hand, take advantage of special pumps, so they can be positioned with greater freedom.

Second, it is essential to make sure that the tool is suitable for the uses for which it is intended. For interventions to the abdominal area, you will need a model that allows you to put the animal in the trendelenburg position, that is, with the head located slightly lower than the knees and pelvis. Thus, dislocation of the organs toward the diaphragm will be promoted, resulting in pelvic clearance. In contrast, for head operations, it is preferable to facilitate the relaxation of the patient’s diaphragm with an antitrendelenburg movement.

Then there are tables that can also perform up/down and side tilting movements, such as the Maneskin model, among the most complete in our catalog. Others consist of two table tops that can turn to fold, such as theHawk, or feature side bars for ortho, such as theAnika.

To finish, it would be convenient to adjust the size of the instrument to the average veterinary practice user. If you have special needs, consult our catalog. You will find specific items for large and small animals.

Echocardio examination tables

To monitor the health of the heart and great vessels, echocardiography may be necessary. This is a noninvasive procedure that uses ultrasound to check for changes in heartbeat and/or flow. It is usually performed by lying the patient on his or her side, after shearing the right and left axillary regions. The latter procedure is useful in removing any obstructions to the passage of sound waves.

An echocardiography examination table can also facilitate the performance of the examination. In some cases, examination tables are, in fact, equipped with specially designed removable openings. Alternatively, ad hoc structures with steel architecture and washable or waterproof fabric covers can be opted for. With this solution, attention should be paid to the animal’s tonnage before proceeding with the examination. If the veterinary clinic is habitually frequented by large specimens, it would be preferable to have XL-sized tables.
